“I was working in the UK for a leading construction business for a few years, when an exciting opportunity came up to move to the United Arab Emirates (UAE), requiring me to set up a regional office and deliver a leisure project. I immediately put myself forward for the role, as the prospect of moving to Dubai was really exciting for anyone in the industry, especially at the age of 24.” says Andrew Collier, ISG’s commercial director in the Middle East.
Those early years in the UAE saw Andrew bolster his professional experience, including setting up business processes and procedures, developing a strong supply chain, managing risk and effectively establishing commercial operations for a new business operation, while delivering local projects. It was also during these years, that he realised he needed to develop a thorough understanding of the technicalities of construction services, particularly in the area of mechanical, electrical and plumbing (MEP) services. He then joined an MEP specialist firm to acquire the knowledge he needed, which he found invaluable.
Fast forward ten years to 2013, Andrew then joined ISG as a quantity surveyor. His ambition was to continue his steep learning curve and fast track his career.
ISG recognised Andrew’s ambition and commitment to developing his career at a fast pace; over the following six years he received successive promotions, soaring quickly from a senior quantity surveyor in 2014 to commercial director in 2018.
As commercial director, Andrew now leads a team of 11 people, responsible for supporting new opportunities, strategising tendering procedures and determining the optimal pricing to balance profit with customer satisfaction and delivery. He helps ensure that ISG remains consistently in a growth trajectory, by supporting key client relationships and managing challenges, opportunities and risks that arise from a constantly shifting market. Andrew’s broadening skills and expertise continues to be an asset for ISG’s growing business in the region.
“I appreciate being given opportunities to develop and grow with the company and see us perform well together’’, says Andrew.
“Right now, there are a lot of opportunities for ISG and it is exciting to be part of a young and passionate leadership team that is empowered to create a positive and nurturing work culture and deliver outstanding business results.”
"I always made it clear that I wanted to develop my career and learn as fast as possible. I am quite ambitious and most importantly I have a strong work ethic – I love learning and I welcome challenges."
